| Working in VA | 5/7/2007 11:42 PM | Peter J. West | A little over a year ago i moved from VA to FL to be with family and get married. During that time, I started working with Computer Solutions Inc, owned by Jonathon Deringer. We have really started doing well managing several small businesses and a few larger ones.
In late April I was given the opertunity to go work at Virginia Tech as a Systems Admin yet still work in FL as an IT Admin for CSI working remotely of course. The best part of the whole deal is that I am getting a 100% paid tuition to VT Business School.
So I am now working in VA for VT and CSI, out of FL. I think I am investing aout 13 hours per day during te week and about 10 over the weekends so far. I use LMI, Log Me In IT Reach and my cell phone for most of the work and it is so far working out very well. I spend a lot of my time on the phone, almost 6000 minutes a month thus far, WOW. I will update with results in about a month to see what it is really like.

| Free Software... | 10/31/2006 7:57 AM | Peter J. West | Everyone loves free software. I don't know anyone who doesn't. Microsoft, in a bold move, is releasing express versions of there software.
At the beggining of the year they released Microsoft Visual Studio Express, a free Visual Basic, Visual C++, and Web Designer. This software is completely free with no stings attached. I did notice that it is missing some advanced editing tools, but the software is feature rich and gets the job done.
The newest, released last week, item is Microsoft Accounting Express 2007. It offers any small or home based service business the ability to go from paper, or excel, based accounting to a free auditable, trackable, software. I setup my fiance with this software to track her nanny service, it is perfect. It even seemlessly integrates with Outlook BCM.

More to come as I learn more.

| Windwos VS MAC | 10/19/2006 10:27 AM | Peter J. West | My brother comes to me the other dayand tells me that all his graphics design friends have MAC OS X and he wants a MAC computer also. I thought about it for a few minutes and told him, blindly, that Windows and MAC were the same. The only difference was that Windows allowed the operator to have almost full control over their PC where a MAC was linited to what Apple says you can do, therefore, MAC computers run more stable than Windows computers.
I have done more research and one article I read says that MAC OSX can when benchmarked on Adobe Photoshop ran 47% faster than a Windows based machine. I thought, how can this be. They are both dual core, they both use DDR2 RAM, they both have 800 ro 1066 FSB. And I thought, OS control. The MAC OS must offer a better form of manageing reseources design for performance. I know that if you keep a windows install clean, like a MAC does. It runs increadibly fast. I want to build an app that will only allow approved applications on the computer. I think Windows Vista is getting close tothis with their Limited Admin controls. That is a start. As I get further along in this project, I will let you know what I discover.

| Autotising.... | 10/3/2006 7:14 AM | Peter J. West | I have started an advertising company in the past few weeks. I know you are curious as to why, so I plan to answer that for you.
Autotising is a DBA for Peter J West, Sole Proprietor, until we prove the concept and actually make a profit, at that point I will upgrade it to a C Corp. The company will sell advertising space on nice vehicles that will be driven around town to degnated areas so that they can attract the desired Marketing Group. Our slogan is Enganging, Afforable, and Effective Advertising. The idea is to market to companies who want a presence and don't want to pay the expensive costs for advertising on the radio, tv, or yellow pages.
We are going to attract customers by advertising ourselves as a prize company, like radio. We will offer monthly and / or bi-weekly , depending on donations, prize that will be given to consumers that go to our website and register. They will answer a short survey and then be entered into a drawing to win out of all the people that completed the survey. This will allow us to track site visits, consumer attention levels to the cars, individual value of the ad spots on the cars for future advertising.
I am truely excited about Autotising and I hope you are too. Go to our site www.autotising.com to read more about it, view driver blogs, and see our photo gallery.
